How to Make Your Windows Laptop
Play Random Sounds When You Slap It
A complete setup guide for SlapWin โ the app that turns your microphone into a sound trigger. No coding, no scripts, no nonsense. Just slap and enjoy.
What you need
- A Windows laptop (Windows 10 or 11)
- A working microphone (built-in is fine)
- SlapWin installed โ that's it
Step 1: Download SlapWin
Head to slap-win.com and hit the Download button, or grab the latest SlapWin-1.3.3-Setup.exe directly from the releases page. Run the installer and SlapWin will be ready in seconds.
Step 2: Bypass Windows SmartScreen
Because SlapWin isn't code-signed yet (signing certificates cost hundreds of dollars โ we're indie), Windows SmartScreen will show a warning the first time you run it. This is normal for unsigned apps from small developers.
- Double-click
SlapWin-1.3.3-Setup.exe - When SmartScreen appears, click More info
- Click Run anyway
- SlapWin starts and appears in your system tray
Step 3: Open settings
SlapWin lives in the system tray (bottom-right, near the clock). Double-click the icon to open the settings window. You'll see the mic level meter moving as it picks up sound around you.
Step 4: Choose a sound pack
SlapWin ships with six built-in packs: Goat, Woman, Burp, Fart, Meme, and Scream. Pick one from the dropdown. Each slap plays a random sound from that pack โ you never hear the same one twice in a row.
Step 5: Dial in sensitivity
The sensitivity slider controls how loud an impact needs to be to trigger a sound. The mic meter shows you the live input level in real time.
- Too many false triggers? Drag sensitivity lower
- Not detecting slaps? Drag sensitivity higher, or check that Windows isn't suppressing your mic (Settings โ Sound โ Microphone โ disable sound enhancements)
Step 6: Slap your laptop
Give the palm rest a firm tap. You should hear a random sound from your chosen pack. If nothing happens, check that the mic meter is moving when you slap โ if it's flat, Windows may be blocking mic access (check Privacy & Security โ Microphone in Windows Settings).
Adding your own sounds
Click the + button in the Sound section to create a new pack. A folder opens in Explorer โ drop any .mp3 or .wav files in, then hit the refresh button (โป) to load them. SlapWin will randomly rotate through everything in that folder.
Tips for the best experience
- Enable Launch at Windows startup so SlapWin is always ready without you having to think about it
- Set the cooldown to 2โ3 seconds to avoid accidental double-triggers from a single slap
- Use headphones if you're in a shared office โ your coworkers may not share your appreciation for goat sounds
